Edo State House of Assembly yesterday considered and passed a bill for a law to repeal the Bendel Sports Council Law, 1967 and to enact the Edo State Sports Commission Law 2021.
Presenting the bill, Chairman, House Standing Committee on Information, Youth and Sports, who is also the member representing Esan North East Constituency, Mr. Francis Okiye, said some of its benefits include removing sports administration from civil service bureaucracy. In his speech, Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly, Marcus Onobun, while underscoring the relevance of the bill, directed that it be accorded a third reading.
Also at plenary, the House approved the nomination of Lady Tawakalitu Woghiren as a new replacement for Oduware Uwadiae, earlier nominated as a member of the state audit commission.
