Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has vowed to withhold the salaries of striking workers and replace any worker who fails to report to their office within 72 hours. This announcement came during a live broadcast from his office at the Government House Centenary City Abakaliki on Monday. The governor criticized the ongoing strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), citing the state government's efforts to improve workers' welfare.
He mentioned that the state government has increased the minimum wage for workers in Grade levels 1 and 2 to N75,000 and added a N40,000 increment for Grade levels 3-17. Governor Nwifuru warned that those not reporting to work will not receive their salaries and will be replaced within 72 hours. The NLC had ordered a seven-day warning strike in Ebonyi and other states for non-compliance with the new national minimum wage
