This is a peculiar time requiring tougher decisions to sail through. Since March, 2020, Nigeria has been battling the COVID-19 pandemic which continues to affect critical sectors across the globe.
The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, made the disclosure to State House Correspondents at the end of a meeting of the Federal Executive Council. Even the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities also supported the decision of the Federal Government to stop Senior Secondary School 3 pupils from partaking in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination earlier scheduled to commence on August 4.
While pupils of other West African countries were ready for the examination, Nigeria had yet to take a concrete stand on whether its pupils would sit the examination or not amid the cacophony of voices on it. But the government’s decision to finally allow the pupils to take the exam appeard soothing to many. Caution must however be made to ensure that no stone would be left unturned for the safety of pupils, invigilators and others involved in the exam conduct.
A statement by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, Ben Bem Goong, disclosed this while announcing the Federal Government’s release of the schedule for various national examinations for exit classes from August 17 to November 18, 2020.
