Tragedy struck in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State as three children died and four others sustained injuries while playing with a dane gun in Didango Geita village. The Commissioner of Police, David Iloyonomon, while confirming the incident, denied claims of an improvised explosive in the community.
Some villages had alleged it was an explosive device after hearing the blast of the gun. The police chief said the children were killed by gunpowder explosion. According to him, 'the four other children that were playing under the tree were injured with one fatally injured and receiving treatment at the state's specialist hospital located in Jalingo, the state capital.
Those who sustained various degrees of injuries are Joseph Danjuma, 8 years old; Leah Aluda, 8 years old; and Godbless Hassan, 7 years old; Christian Hassan, 7 years old; grandchildren of Danjuma Audu, the owner of an irrigation rice farm whom the children followed to assist on the farm.
