President Rodrigo Duterte will attend a virtual meeting of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders on July 16, where they will tackle the coronavirus crisis.
Duterte will join his counterparts from 21 member economies in this year's APEC Informal Leaders' Retreat on Friday at 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. , via video conference.
The virtual gathering will have a"high-level discussion on mitigating the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and opportunities for collaboration to accelerate economic recovery," the Office of the President said in a statement. Aside from the Philippines, the other APEC members are Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, The Russian Federation, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, United States, and Vietnam.
International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva and World Health Organization Executive Director Michael Ryan are expected to brief the APEC leaders on the"global economic and health responses to contain the pandemic."
