Aminu was found guilty of hitting Sergeant Adamu Maigari on the head with a wooden log during a traffic stop. Presiding Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel sentenced Aminu to 15 strokes of the cane, a punishment intended to serve as a deterrent to future offenses against law enforcement.

The court heard from Inspector Chidi Leo, the prosecutor, who detailed the events of January 29th. According to Leo, Aminu was driving erratically when Maigari stopped him.
