PUTRAJAYA: Pakatan Harapan is not calling for other Malay-based parties to join them, says Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The Prime Minister and Pakatan chairman, in clarifying his earlier call for Malays to join Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, said the existing four Malay-based parties could do the job of looking after the Malays’ interests without the need of new parties.
“Some wanted to form new political parties just to be leaders. What is the point of having a party with only the president and deputy president?” he said after chairing the Pakatan presidential council meeting here yesterday.“And no they did not sebat me ,” he said. Asked to explain his call despite saying that Pakatan was not going to accept other parties into its fold, Dr Mahathir said the parties could not join Pakatan but its members could.
On another issue, Dr Mahathir said a task force would be formed to see how election pledges by Pakatan could be implemented fast.
