THE government is crafting a roadmap to speed up the transition of the public transport system from gas-fueled transportation to electric vehicles (EVs).
Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista stressed the urgent need to shift to EVs.'We want a green transport system to be in place sooner, and we are working on a roadmap to transition the public transport system to EVs,' Bautista said in a recent business club forum.To facilitate the smooth transition, he said the DOTr is considering giving incentives such as tax breaks and soft loans to help transport operators jumpstart their shift to EVs.
12 which modified tariff rates previously ranging from five percent to 30 percent for certain EVs by reducing it to zero percent to help the country adapt to e-vehicle usage and decrease carbon emissions.However, EO 12 excluded e-motorcycles from the list of EVs which received zero percent import duties.
