The agreement is expected to become official later Wednesday and could be as long as 10 years, an unprecedented commitment at the position. The Dodgers’ first-round pick out of the University of Louisville in 2016, Smith quickly developed into one the top offensive catchers in MLB. Smith made his first All-Star team last season, though a second-half slump dropped his OPS for the season to .797, his first season with a sub-.800 OPS.
