PETALING JAYA: A 54-year-old man suspected by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to be the mastermind of a corruption case linked to its probe into the Jana Wibawa programme was released today only to be rearrested by the anti-graft agency in connection with another probe.

Utusan Malaysia reported that Hussein Nasir, commonly referred to as “Datuk Roy”, was released this morning following a decision by MACC not to seek an extension of his remand order.However, Hussein’s lawyer, Fahmi Moin confirmed his client’s rearrest in connection with another MACC probe under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009.A remand order will be sought in connection with the latest probe, he added.

“So far, I have no information on when he will be charged in court,” the lawyer was reported as saying. Hussein is among five people, including an MACC officer, who were arrested for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribes amounting to RM400,000 to prevent investigations into the controversial programme.
