A state funeral for Father Bob Maguire was held at St Patrick's Cathedral in Melbourne on Friday where hundreds gathered to farewell the 'larrikin' priest.
Father Bob - a parish priest of Sts. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church from 1973 to 2012 - died on April 19 aged 88.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews led the tributes, saying Father Bob"always knew what people needed". Mr Andrews said anyone who turned up at Father Bob's doorstep"got what they needed in that moment" due to his enormous generosity and contribution in the community. People who worked with Father Bob were also there, including TV presenter Eddy McGuire and radio host John Safran
Father Bob's niece Peta Knights also spoke during the service, honouring the 88-year-old's dedication to his family. "His arrivals at family gatherings always followed the same pattern. He was always the last to arrive and when he did, he was always very loud."Clergymen began the procession towards the alter at the commencement of Father Bob's state funeral.
