PAGASA recorded a heat index of 51°C in Dagupan City on Saturday, the hottest computed in 2021 so far.
The heat index provides the “apparent” temperature or what humans “perceive or feel” as the temperature affects their body, according to PAGASA. Saturday’s reading in Dagupan City falls within the danger range, which spans 41°C to 54°C according to the agency. Temperatures within this band are “likely” to cause heat cramps and heat exhaustion” and heat stroke is “probable with continued activity.”
Regular hydration is also encouraged, as the body needs water to remain cool. Liquor, meanwhile, is discouraged during heat emergencies as alcohol dehydrates the body.
