A Nigerian CSO calls on the NNPCL to prioritize crude oil supply to local refineries, including the Dangote Refinery, amid allegations of planned cuts to Dangote's allocation.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited ( NNPCL ) has been asked to prioritize crude oil supply to local refineries , including the Dangote Refinery , over foreign partners. A civil society organization (CSO), Concerned Nigerian Citizens, made the call on Tuesday in Abuja. The call comes amid allegations that the NNPCL plans to cut crude supply to the Dangote Refinery .

The NNPCL currently allocates 300,000 barrels of crude per day to the Dangote Refinery, under the Federal Government’s naira-for-crude initiative. Recently, there were reports that the NNPCL may adjust its crude allocation to the Dangote Refinery following the coming onstream of the Warri and Port Harcourt refineries. The Port Harcourt and Warri refineries currently operate at a combined capacity of about 135,000 barrels per day. Addressing journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, the CSO expressed concern over reports that the NNPCL plans to cut down on crude oil supply to the Dangote Refinery from 300,000 barrels per day. National Coordinator of the group, Obinna Francis, alleged that the plan is part of a larger scheme to monopolize the oil sector and frustrate local investors. Francis noted that the removal of fuel subsidies has led to increased hardship and suffering for Nigerians, with a hike in fuel pump price leading to a rise in the prices of goods and services across the country. The Concerned Nigerian Citizens also expressed doubts over the NNPCL's claim that the Warri and Port Harcourt refineries are operational and producing at 60-70 percent capacity. Francis argued that the Dangote Refinery has been making efforts to make petroleum products affordable for Nigerians and that reducing its crude oil supply would undermine this effort
