The government of Cross River State has formally commended President Bola Tinubu for respecting the wishes of the people of the state by replacing an
erstwhile stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party , ASU Okang, as commissioner representing the state on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission .
Represented by his Chief of staff, Emmanuel Ironbar, the state governor, Prince Bassey Otu, said the president may have been ill-advised to have endorsed Okang, but that he has reinforced confidence on the minds of the people by quickly replacing him with Mr Orok Duke. Speaking earlier in a similar vein, the Speaker said the president’s swift response has changed their earlier position.
“Had the president not reacted favourably to the popular desire of the people, the Assembly had taken a position that whereas the executive arm of state government may take a diplomatic towards the matter, we were not to be soft. But we are grateful to the president for swiftly repealing the appointment.”
