The Cross River State Government has banned illegal mining activities in the state, especially in Biase and Akamkpa local government areas. The government issued the ban notice in a statement signed by Mr Alfred Mboto, the permanent secretary for special services at Governor Ben Ayade’s Office, and made available to journalists in Calabar on Thursday. According to the statement, the government described illegal mining as threatening the safety and security of the local government areas.

The government issued the ban notice in a statement signed by Mr Alfred Mboto, the permanent secretary for special services at Governor Ben Ayade’s Office, and made available to journalists in Calabar on Thursday. “Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River has placed a total ban on all illegal mining activities in the state forthwith,” said the statement.
The state has been battling to curb illegal mining for some time, with foreigners, including Chinese nationals said to be involved in illegal mining activities in the state.
