Rumblings in the Rivers State’s house of cards morphed into a battle royal yesterday between the two power brokers and their loyalists. Without warning, in the early hours of yesterday, the lid blew open that all was not well....
Fubara, The Guardian learnt has dissolved the State Executive Council allegedly packed with Wike’s loyalists. As at press time last night, some eminent personalities in the Peoples Democratic Party were locked in a secret meeting at the Rivers State Government House with the governor over the crisis.
The police in Rivers have, however, continued to keep mum over the attack on Fubara by some of their operatives in Port Harcourt. Some police operatives had fired teargas and water cannons at the governor while he was walking along the road in Port Harcourt with some security aides and political supporters shortly after the Assembly was engulfed in crisis following an impeachment attempt against the governor. The governor had attempted to visit the burnt Assembly complex.
Amid rife speculations that Fubara’s predecessor, Wike, was behind the impeachment attempt, six months after he helped install Fubara as governor, the former governor was yet to publicly comment on the latest crisis. “My commitment to Rivers people is that I will be fair and just to all and sundry. And I will ensure that the rule of law takes its course. I will not betray my colleagues, I will not betray Rivers people and my constituencies. I will also ensure that the independence of the Rivers House of Assembly is adhered to, with mutual respect to the judiciary and the Executive arms of government.”

MEANWHILE, leader of the Ijaw nation, Edwin Clark, has warned strongly against any orchestrated plot by Wike to remove Fubara and replace him with an Ikwerre man. In a statement he personally signed, Clark asked President Bola Tinubu to immediately call Wike and the security agents to order before the situation degenerates further.
“President Tinubu must act fast and avert the unfolding crisis in Rivers in the interest of his administration, the nation’s democracy, and the country at large.” The Senate has approved the nomination of Zacchaeus Adedeji as Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service . Appearing at Tuesday’s upper chamber for his screening, Adedeji disclosed his plans to improve the nation’s revenue. Adedeji explained that the issue in Nigeria is that of proper data, stating that developing data upon which decisions will…
