COVID-19: Over 1,000 Almajiris In Jigawa Isolation Centre
Jigawa State Government on Monday announced that a total number of 1,000 Almajiris are currently repatriated and isolated in the state. The Commissioner of Health and the Chairman of the State Task Force on COVID-19, Dr Abba Zakari, confirmed this to Channels Television.
According to him, the children would be isolated for 14 days and would be tested for COVID-19 before they are allowed to join their families.“Our aim is to protect the larger society. We can only allow these children back in the society if we are sure that they are not positive. “We would then allow those that are negative to go home and we would have to treat others that are positive in our treatment centre,” the commissioner said.
Jigawa State officials had earlier on April 22 received 607 Almajiris from Kano State, four days later Gombe State deported 69 Almajiri to Jigawa and today Nasarawa State deported 390 to the state. The state government is isolating them at the NYSC camp in Kiyawa Local Government Area and has contracted a private laboratory to carry out COVID-19 test on them.
