COVID-19: Ondo nurses threaten strike action
Nurses at the state owned Mother and Child Hospital, Akure have threatened to down tools over failure of the state government to carry out contact tracing of health workers who tested positive to COVID-19.
The nurses who carried out a peaceful protest on Tuesday morning said the increasing rate of COVID-19 infections among health workers in the state was worrisome. They said the there was no efforts by the government to carry out contact tracing of infected persons.State Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives , Comrade Kehinde Nomiye, stated that over 10 nurses and five doctors alongside other health workers contracted COVID-19 within one week.
Comrade Nomiye said they protested to draw attention to failure by the state government and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control to carry out contact tracing of the infected doctors and nurses 98 hours after the cases were detected.
