Some Nigerians resident in Eastern China have procured 1,500 surgical masks for onward delivery to the Nigerian health workers in the frontline to combat COVID-19.
They said the masks were part of their contribution towards ameliorating the shortage of Personal Protective Equipment being experienced by health workers in Nigeria.
The China residents under the aegis of Nigerians in Diaspora , conveyed their donations in a statement issued in Shanghai and made available toby its President, Elijah Odii; Vice-President, Dr Adebisi Muslimah, and General Secretary, Bem Shadrach. They also called on Nigerians, particularly in China and abroad in general to “always prioritise their health condition.”
The group said the surgical masks would be directly handed to the health workers through its Welfare Secretary, Charles Madukasi, who is currently on holidays in Nigeria. “Nigerians in East China, having experienced the outbreak of COVID-19 were conscious of the dangers it posed to health workers, particularly those on the frontline. It is, therefore, important to support them with certified equipment that have the right standards to protect them from being exposed to the virus,” the statement added. All rights reserved.
