Health workers in Nasarawa State have embarked on a strike after 50 of their colleagues testd positive for COVID-19.
The chairman of the Coalition of Nasarawa State Health Professional Associations, Dr.Bulus Umaru peter, said in the state capital Lafia that government failed to respond to their demands after the 7-day warning strike which they first embarked upon. Their demands include promotion and annual increment of workers that have accumulated over the last 10 years; implementation of the new minimum wage ;and payment of hazard allowance and life insurance.Dr Bulus alleged that all efforts by leaders of the coalition to make government live up to its responsibilities yielded no positive outcome.
Dr Bulus said that, following the intervention of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, and the State Council of Chiefs,the coalition decided to relax the warning strike at the Local Government level to enable government fast tract action on meeting their demands but nothing has happened.Health Commissioner Ahmed Yahaya did not reply sms sent to him on the reaction of the state government.
