COVID-19: Kano reviews, reduces 2020 budget by 30 percent

The fiscal document, according to the governor, after ensuring workable cuts, would be taken to the Kano State Assembly for further legislation and passage.

He made the revelation during a media parley which took place at the Africa House, Government House, Kano on Monday, assuring that, with the new budget size, the state would do everything possible to see that, the security of the state, health and education, among other critical sectors, were not compromised.“We are reviewing our budget with 30 percent cut, just to match with the challenge posed by this COVID-19 pandemic as is the case world over.

Disclosing that, ongoing projects would be looked at, with the intention of assessing how they can match with the possible cut in the fiscal document size, he said he would ensure that, “The service to humanity is still and will continue to be our priority.” All the processes of reviewing the document, governor Ganduje said, “Are open and transparent. We are enjoying more prudence in the process, so that we continue to have a prudent-laden and transparency-compliant fiscal document just as when we started, ab initio.”
