Almost overnight, humanity has been thrown out of his familiar daily rhythm, with the outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic, otherwise known as Covid-19. Unprecedented behavioural changes have become the norm all over the world, as the closure of school and businesses, closure of worship centres, self-isolation, social distancing and stay-at-home orders are being forced down the throat of bemused citizens.
This development has not gone down well with religious leaders; they are not happy with the fact that they are increasingly being subject to government regulations on how to conduct their affairs. As a result, they have been piling pressure on the government to lift the restrictions imposed on gathering for joint worship, arguing that churches and other centres of worship are more organised than markets because they can compel their members to conduct themselves in an orderly manner.
Events have however come to the aid of man and he is being compelled to change his ways of living. The period of lockdown and the restrictions occasioned by the guidelines to curb Covid-19 pandemic has afforded humanity ample opportunity for sombre reflection; to perhaps awaken to the fact that he is far from the recognition of the Will of God. Religious authorities have not been able to offer any assistance in this regard because they are mainly concerned with materialism.
Experts say eating junk food on a regular basis increases the intake of excess fat, simple carbohydrates, and processed sugar which may lead to a higher risk of obesity and chronic diseases like cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and cancer.
