IMF MD KGeorgieva announces $500m debt relief for 25 countries - 19 in Africa, Nigeria excluded

Kristalina Georgieva, IMF Managing Director, in a statement put the figure at $500million.

“The CCRT can currently provide about US$500 million in grant-based debt service relief, including the recent US$185 million pledge by the U.K. and US$100 million provided by Japan as immediately available resources. Nigeria has a maximum crude oil production capacity of 2.5 million barrels per day and is Africa’s largest producer of oil.Despite this, the country continues to beg international organisations for money.
