PETALING JAYA: Malaysia detected 2,478 new Covid-19 cases on Monday (April 25), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,433,551 infections since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry's CovidNow portal reported that there were a total of 2,471 local Covid-19 infections as at 11.59pm Monday, while seven cases were imported.

Data from the ministry's GitHub repository showed that this is the first time Malaysia recorded less than 2,500 daily cases since Jan 17, 2022, when 2,342 Covid-19 infections were recorded. CovidNow also reported that recoveries continued to outpace new infections, with 9,215 individuals recovering from their infections on Monday.Active cases also showed a decline, with the portal reporting that there are currently 68,007 active Covid-19 infections in the country.

Of this total, only 95 patients require treatment at intensive care units , with 63 requiring ventilator support and 35 unventilated. Some 66,014 Covid-19 patients, or 97.1% of active cases are observing home quarantine, while 86 individuals, or 0.1%, are being treated at low-risk quarantine and treatment centres.According to data on GitHub, there were eight deaths due to Covid-19 reported as at 11.59pm Monday, with two classified as brought-in-dead.Article type: free
