AbdulRazaq’s gesture was not unconnnected with the directive of the Federal Government on curtailing the spread of coronavirus across the country. Controller of Correctional Service in Kwara, Adebisi Francis said that 83 inmates, who benefited from the government’s benevolence, were released immediately.
According to him, sentences of two inmates were also reduced from 10 years to eight years while the conviction of 16 condemned inmates was commuted to life imprisonment.He explained that the beneficiaries were those that had served 75 percent of their jail terms, those with challenges and the aged inmates.He said that the government gesture was to decongest the prisons as directed by the Federal Government as part of efforts to checkmate the spread of coronavirus pandemic.
