Amid the spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country in recent times, no fewer than 88 persons have been killed within the last seven days.
Nigeria had its first COVID-19 death on March 22, 2020. But, between then and Friday, the number of deaths has risen to 488.
On June 14, there were 13 deaths recorded in five states, pushing the total deaths to 420, while 403 new cases were recorded. Also, on June 17, no fewer than 14 persons died – six in Edo State; five in Ondo and one in each of Kwara, Oyo and Rivers – pushing the total deaths to 469, while total cases rose by 587 cases.
As of Friday afternoon, Lagos had 108 deaths, Kano, 50; Edo, 31; Borno, 30; FCT, 28; Rivers, 26; Katsina, 22; Delta, 17; Sokoto, 14; Ogun, 15; Ondo, 15; Gombe, 13; Bauchi, 11; Kaduna, 10; Oyo, nine; Anambra, nine; Yobe, eight; Jigawa, six; Kwara, six; Kebbi, six; Nasarawa, six; Plateau, five; Enugu, five; Zamfara, five; Osun, four; Adamawa, four; Imo, three; Bayelsa, three; Niger, two; Akwa Ibom, two; and Ekiti, two.
