Court orders DSS to release arrested BuhariMustGo campaigners - Punch Newspapers

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the immediate release of the five detained worshippers, who were arrested at the Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Abuja, for wearing T-shirts with the inscription,Justice Anwuli Chikere issued the order to the Department of State Service on Monday while ruling on separate ex parte applications that were brought by their counsel, Tope Temokun.had earlier reported the arrest on the church premises and detention of the anti-Buhari worshippers.

The five worshippers are Ben Mannaseh, Emmanuel Larry, Victor Udoka Anene, a blind saxophonist, Samuel Gabriel Iwatonaiye, and Henry Nwodo. In suits marked as FHC/ABJ/CS/632/202, FHC/ABJ/CS/636/2021, FHC/ABJ/CS/637/2021, FHC/ABJ/CS/638/2021, FHC/ABJ/CS/639/2021, the applicants had sued the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari , the pastor-in-charge of the church, Paul Enenche and others for alleged unlawful arrest and detention.

The applicants prayed the court to declare their arrest and detention as unlawful and award the sum of N10m to each of them for damages. Temokun argued that the applicants’ rights were breached and they were entitled to their fundamental human rights.All rights reserved.
