There were praises to God on Friday, April 5, 2020, at the Delta State Government House, Asaba, when two prominent sons of the state who survived the deadly COVID-19 pandemic mounted the podium to nar
rate their battles with the virus at isolation centres. The two survivors, Chief Austin Eruotor, who is the index case of the virus in the state, and the fourth victim of the pandemic, Mr Jerry Azinge, shared their experiences in a moving way to the audience.
“I am Austin Eruotor; married with seven children and based in Canada. I came into Nigeria on February 5, 2020 and took ill. Eruotor stated that he wanted to sensitise those who still believed the virus was hoax, saying “my coming out to share my experience is because many people still don’t believe that COVID-19 is real. I am a testimony.
I also thank the COVID-19 team; the doctors and nurses who were very hard-working, for taking good care of me at the centre. “I thank God for my life because I was infected with COVID-19 and quarantined at the FMC, Asaba Isolation Centre for 18 days.“He has put together a formidable medical team to handle the pandemic led by the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Mordi Ononye.
Azinge added, “That may be the reasons for the skepticism; as Chief Eruotor said, he had problem breathing but mine was different. I didn’t have any problem with breathing or eating but I was always tired and had difficulty standing.
