WHO says the CO stands for corona while the VI stands for virus and the D for disease.
The coronavirus will henceforth be known as “Covid-19”, the World Health Organisation said on Tuesday.
In the last seven weeks, Covid-19 had been reported as coronavirus or 2019-nCoV, until scientists came up with the new official name. “We had to find a name that did not refer to a geographical location, an animal, an individual or group of people, and which is also pronounceable and related to the disease.Meanwhile, the number of confirmed cases and the death toll from the disease has continued to rise.
So far, 187,728 are now under medical observation, who have been identified as having had close contact with infected patients.
