The United States says China-linked hackers were targeting U.S. research organisations to steal data on vaccines and treatments for coronavirus.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency alerted of the development on Wednesday. They said healthcare, pharmaceutical and research institutions working on a pandemic response should take more precautions.“China’s efforts to target these sectors pose a significant threat to our nation’s response to COVID-19,’’ FBI and CISA noted.
The potential theft of this information “jeopardises the delivery of secure, effective, and efficient treatment options. More details on the threat will be released in the coming days.”President Donald Trump, Secretary Mike Pompeo and other officials of administration have at different times blamed China for being the source of COVID-19., pointing out that the World Health Organisation has cleared it of any wrongdoing.
