Mr Emefiele has been out of the country for several weeks amidst fears he would be arrested by operatives of the State Security Service who are investigating several allegations against him, including corruption and terrorism financing.
But in a statement signed by the SSS spokesperson, Peter Afunnaya, the secret police said the reports are “fake and misleading.” The statement, signed by the apex bank’s spokesperson, Osita Nwanisobi, said Mr Emefiele resumed to perform his duty ahead of the first Monetary Policy Committee meeting of the year scheduled for January 23 to 24.
“While thanking the public for keeping faith with the Bank, we urge Nigerians to continue to support the policies of the Bank aimed at ensuring a stable financial system and the Nigerian economy in general.”
