Following the sack of 850 casual workers of the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company , Itsekiri host communities have warned that the safety of workers and assets of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation in their land are no more guaranteed.

The communities which comprises Aja-Etan, Ijala-Ikeren, Ubeji and Ifie-Kporo in Warri Local Government area of the state are host to the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company , the Nigerian Gas Company the Petroleum Products Marketing Company and the Nigeria Petroleum Development Company . Expressing dissatisfaction with the management of both the NNPC and its subsidiary, WRPC, the people claimed that the management of the Warri Refinery “is working with some security personnel to harass, intimidate and cause crisis” in their communities.

“We are using this medium to call on all Nigerians whose sons and daughters were announced to have been employed by the NNPC earlier this year not to allow their children to step foot on our soil in hope of resuming work. “We note with serious concerns what is now an open secret, that President Buhari’s administration through the NNPC and Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, is actively pursuing policies to kill the WRPC, Port Harcourt Refining Company and Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company to prepare grounds for the Dangote refinery to become the only operational refinery in Nigeria.
