A commercial driver died in a multi-vehicle Lagos accident on the Lagos-Apapa Expressway. LASTMA urges caution after the fatal collision.
learnt from a statement on Tuesday by the spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Adebayo Taofiq, that the incident involved a commercial minibus and a Toyota Tundra vehicle.
He stated, “Preliminary investigations conducted by security personnel at the scene revealed that the driver of the commercial minibus sustained grievous injuries and died instantly due to the devastating impact of the collision.
“LASTMA operatives, who were on routine traffic monitoring and surveillance duties within the corridor, swiftly mobilised to the scene to coordinate emergency response efforts, secure the accident site, manage traffic flow and prevent further obstruction along the heavily trafficked route. ” He revealed that the body of the deceased driver was handed over to his family at the scene of the incident.
Taofiq added that the wreckage of the vehicles was removed from the road and handed over to the police for further investigation. He continued, “The vehicles were thereafter handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for exhaustive investigation into both the immediate and remote causes of the crash, with a view to determining liability and facilitating any necessary legal proceedings.
“Notwithstanding the significant disruption occasioned by the incident, the prompt intervention of LASTMA officers, coupled with the deployment of effective traffic management strategies, ensured the expeditious restoration of free vehicular movement along the affected corridor. ” Reacting, the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased while admonishing motorists on the need to always drive with caution.
