There is confusion in Calabar South Local Government area of Cross River State over who is the right paramount ruler of the local government.

The situation became uncontrollable and tensed that security operatives have to step in and disperse the people and the local government staff were asked to vacate their offices for fear of hoodlums taking over and unleash mayhem. The meeting ended abruptly. “Initially, we were not given a comfortable place but few minutes later, somebody came from nowhere, called himself the Muri Munene of Efut and Paramount Ruler of Calabar South, Prof Itam Hogan Itam, but we the Clan Heads said no, he is not our Paramount Ruler because he is a not a certified Village Head or Etubom in Calabar South.

“I was the one who took the State Government, Attorney General of Local government and the Chieftaincy Affairs to Court, the Court decided that the Chieftaincy Affairs should give a date for us to come and conduct the election for one of us to become the paramount ruler.
