The Nation Newspaper Civil society groups back Tinubu’s reforms, frown over discontent in Niger Delta

Civil society groups under the aegis of the Civil Society Coalition for Mandate Protection staged a rally yesterday near the Gani Fawehinmi Park, in Ojota, Lagos, to declare support for the reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who will be marking his first anniversary in office next month..

However, the CSC-MAP said the oil-producing communities are worried, following the killings of 17 soldiers in a dastardly manner recently within their domain. This, the coalition added, shows that certain elements in the Niger Delta have dangerous weapons.It said the present discontent in the Niger Delta is a bad omen, which can snowball into a major crisis, if not nipped in the bud.

“It is inconceivable that oil pipeline protection in Itsekiri and Ilaje have been handed over to interests that fought these communities with arms and ammunition in the past.
