The Coalition of Civil Society Groups in Nigeria (CCSGN) has written to President Muhammadu Buhari, demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of the Acting Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Isah Idris Jere, over his refusal to leave office after the expiration of his one-year extension in office.

The group in the letter dated April 28, 2023, signed by Ayodeji Ologun and addressed to President Buhari through the Minister of Interior, threatened to picket the office of Immigration and the Ministry of Interior on a daily basis until their demands were met.

Despite being fully aware of Jere's status as already being pencilled down for retirement last week, President Buhari, like in the past, ignored all laid down rules to unlawfully elongate his tenure, thereby denying other officers in the NIS a chance to move up the ladder. The letter seen by SaharaReporters read, “The Coalition of Civil Society Groups in Nigeria as underlisted and signed, is a group of persons dedicated to the promotion of probity, accountability and transparency in governance, is writing your office to request that act of corruption ongoing at the Nigerian Immigration Service be looked into and justice done.
