Popular Musician and Ambassador for Save the Children UK, Florence Otedola popularly known as 'DJ Cuppy’ has described the state of education...
L-R: Director of Advocacy and Campaign for Save the Children Nigeria, Amanuel Mamo; Florence 'DJ Cuppy’ Otedola; and Country Director for Save the Children, Nigeria, Deirdre Keogh, during the press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday.
While speaking with newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja, DJ Cuppy said, “As a B.Sc and Masters holder, everybody knows how I feel about education; throughout my musical career, I have always referenced how education has been a powerful tool for me. DJ Cuppy, who is also a Member of Save the Children’s African Advisory Board, further added that: “Myself and my team flew out and visited the Stabilization Centre operated by Save the Children in Maiduguri, Borno State.
“I am using my voice to speak for those who don’t have voices. Just like the young girls I met today; I’ve grown from a young Nigerian girl with dreams but now I am a woman with a global vision. My vision is to save every child that I can.“At least 550,000 babies are thought to have died as a result of armed conflict between 2013 and 2017 in the 10 worst-affected countries, including Nigeria.”
“This can be a reality when proper policies and strategies are in place, adequately funded, with government and development partners better coordinated and collaborated to accelerate positive changes for children,” Cuppy added. According to the Director of Advocacy and Campaign for Save the Children Nigeria, Amanuel Mamo, “We create a safe space for children, especially the girls to discuss and interact about their own issues. In those kinds of safe spaces, they come to realise that education is actually the key to transform and make the right decisions in their lives – for example, the decision to get married before or after 18.
