Anatoly Dyatlov was deputy chief-engineer at the Chernobyl nuclear plant in northern Ukraine, where the accident took place. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 1987 for “criminal mismanagement of potentially explosive enterprises”. Footage from 2015 documentary ‘The Russian Woodpecker’ shows an interview with Mr Dyatlov in 1993, where he issues a damning statement, claiming that documents are being withheld.He insisted that lessons must be learned to prevent another nuclear catastrophe.
