The National Productivity Centre (NPC) has moved to boost transparency in procurement process through financial bid opening for contracts for goods, services and works.

Director-General of National Productivity Centre , Dr. Kashim Akor, said opening up the bid process for Nigerians to participate in the contracts procedure was meant to enthrone transparency, value for money and accountability.

He said opening up the bid to the public was in strict compliance with the Procurement Act 2007. He said the Act was aimed at ensuring value for money, transparency and adherence to due process in the way procurement is done.He said: “The Centre has the choice of going to Bureau of Public Procurement to request for certificate of no objection once BPP is convinced. But we felt that all the jobs we have should be thrown to the public to express interest.

On his part, Director, Procurement, Dr. Mustapha Raji, said while many agencies of government cited COVID-19 to adopt selective bidding, the Centre opted for open bid to deepen transparency and accountability of its processes. He explained: “It is not necessarily companies that quote lowest figures that will get the jobs. No. That is not how it works. Goods and works are given to companies that quote responsibly.
