June 25, 2023 12:53 PMThe Central Bank of Nigeria has issued guidelines requiring banks to collect and verify social media handles as part of their know your customer procedures.
The bank said the objective of the regulation is to prevent financial crimes and terrorism while boosting the precision and thoroughness of customer identification. “For individuals — legal name and any other names used , permanent address , residential address , telephone number, e-mail address, and social media handle; date and place of birth, bank verification number; tax identification number; nationality; occupation; public position held; and name of employer,” the CBN said.
