Some countries are beginning to realize this and slow down or reverse their own “transitions,” most notably Germany, which is busy seeking alternatives to Russian natural gas.Article content But not Canada. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s explicit response to rising energy prices brought on, in part, by Putin’s war, is to make the situation even worse. At ain Ottawa this week, Trudeau said Russia’s invasion means “the move off of fossil fuels … is going to happen much faster because of Russia.”
Canada’s oil and gas reserves could eventually help replace the dictator oil and gas that is destabilizing Europe and the rest of the world, but for Trudeau, the answer is to “accelerate our moves off of oil and gas.” What that means, he says, is that, “any further oil plants or any further energy production is going to have to fit into our emissions-reduction plan.” Will accelerating mean that already
