7NEWS understands Carlton board member Craig Mathieson is set to step down from his role at the Blues. 7NEWS

7NEWS Melbourne’s Tom Browne reported on Monday morning that Mathieson’s departure from his position is “imminent”.Analysis, local footy and the biggest moments, Seven and 7plus are the home of footy shows for every fan. Stream them all for free on“Big developments at Carlton, I expect high profile director Craig Mathieson will step off the board imminently,” Browne said.

“Craig Mathieson had heated discussions with Carlton president Luke Sayers in the rooms in Sydney post game. It was a verbal altercation. “President Luke Sayers considered it below professional standards of what is expected, which has led to Mathieson departing.” Mathieson has been a Carlton director since 2012 and is believed to have been a supporter of the push to appoint Ross Lyon after David Teague’s sacking in 2021.Under Carlton’s constitution, which limits directors to a maximum 12-year stint, Craig Mathieson’s resignation would have come within the next year anyway. But the move comes as the Blues’ season hit a grim new low on Friday night, going down to Sydney by 26 points to lose their sixth game from the past seven weeks.
