Cap on B.C. carbon emissions could pave way for other LNG development

B.C. might have given itself room for additional LNG development by promising to cap the industry\u0027s overall emissions, an expert says.

Opposition B.C. Green MLA Adam Olsen said the direction that the energy action framework sets is “largely positive,” but Tuesday’s announcement “remains largely void of details.”

“If you are a modeller like me, there’s all sorts of things going up and down at the same time,” Jaccard said. “A cap doesn’t mean nobody goes up, a cap says let’s find the cheapest way of getting to a target, which in aggregate is down.

“We are optimistic that the Haisla Nation’s legacy will unlock more Indigenous-led LNG projects in B.C.,” the statement reads. “Cedar LNG has made some progress, but it still has a lot of distance to cover before it reaches ,” Williams-Derry said in an email response to questions.
