PETALING JAYA: The Cabinet has agreed to reopen the tender for the Klang Valley Double Tracking (Phase 2) (KVDT 2) project, cancelling the earlier contract via direct negotiation following recent revelations in Parliament, says Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

Dr Wee said the current project, which is now under Dhaya Maju-LTAT Sdn Bhd, is overpriced and the open tender will be in the interest of optimising the use of public funds for large-scale infrastructure projects.gain the best value for the country.

The KVDT 2 is one of the 101 projects costing a total of RM6.61bil, which was recently revealed in Parliament as having been given out by the previous Pakatan Harapan government through direct negotiations. "However, in October 2018, a Transport Ministry-assigned consultant Opus then submitted a Professional Review Report which concluded that the project actually costs RM3.398bil based on DM-LTAT’s original scope of work."After taking into consideration the results of extensive study and investigation, the ministry has determined that the current project cost is overpriced.

"It is now prudent to reopen the bidding process via an open tender system following the proper procedures, instead of via direct negotiation as done previously.
