The President, Major general Muhammadu Buhari , Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State and former governor of the state, Adams Oshiomhole were among Nigerians who commiserated with the family, friends and associates of the Chairman of Ocean Marine Solutions, Idahosa Okunbo, over the death of the renowned businessman and philanthropist at 63.
The statement read in part, “The President notes that the late Okunbo with investments spanning the petroleum, telecommunications, maritime, and power sectors, among others, contributed immensely to the development of the Nigerian economy, providing sustenance to many families in the process.” In his condolence message, the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, described Okunbo as a great son of the state as well as “a man of unparalleled energy and accomplishments”.Also, a former governor of Edo State and one-time National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, described the death of Okunbo as an irreplaceable loss to humanity.
Meanwhile the family of the late Okunbo, headed by Dr. Tinyan Okunbo, said, “We thank God for a life of service and dedication to humanity that the late businessman lived and we take solace in the fact that he lived a good life and he has gone to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.” Also, an Itsekiri leader, Mr. Matthew Tsekure, described Okunbo’s death as a big loss not only to the Edo people but the entire Itsekiri nation as a whole.All rights reserved.
