Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, have described the late former Super Permanent Secretary and one of Nigeria’s elder statesmen, Ahmed Joda, as a true and great Nigerian.

“Oh! What heartbreaking news that my friend of well over 60 years has passed to the great beyond,” Obasanjo said in a statement through his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi.“Ahmed Joda by his feature did not need to tell you was a Fulani man, but, in everything I know he did, he lived not just as a Fulani man, he lived, he worked and he laboured as a true Nigerian. There are not many like him, and that was what strengthened our relationship since 1959.

“But, it was Ahmed Joda and other Super Permanent Secretaries like Philip Asiodu, Liman Ciroma, Alison Ayida who prevailed not to have Nigeria broken up.”Also, Buhari, in his tribute to the deceased, said Joda was the last surviving member of Governor Hassan Usman’s Northern Nigeria cabinet. The president highlighted Joda’s “monumental contributions to Nigeria’s unity and progress,” from the birth of the nation until his death, saying that “his lofty ideals will continue to motivate millions across the nation.’’Similarly, AbdulRazaq, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, described Joda as one of the best public administrators in post-Independence Nigeria and a patriot with sterling records of integrity and service to the nation.
