Vance Mazur will serve at least 15 years behind bars for fatally stabbing Broome resident Mr Everett in 2017.
A 51-year-old man was suffering from violent delusions when he fatally stabbed a Broome man outside a popular hotel, the Supreme Court has heard.Mazur was found guilty of murder after a five-day trial earlier this year.Vance Mazur was handed a life sentence on Tuesday afternoon for the fatal stabbing of fellow Broome resident Mr Everett outside the Mercure Hotel on December 20, 2017.
CCTV played to the court during Mazur's five-day trial earlier this year showed him leaving the scene, while Mr Everett staggered back into the hotel's reception and collapsed. "[Mr Everett] was entirely innocent, he has done nothing to provoke nor antagonise the offender," Mr Whalley said."He happened across the offender's path when the offender made the decision to stab him for reasons which are likely to remain forever unknown."A psychiatrist's report highlighted Mazur's chronic treatment-resistant schizophrenia as a key factor in his violent behaviour and lack of remorse.
