Operatives of the Department of State Services on Monday at the Federal High Court, Abuja assaulted journalists covering the case involving 12 detained associates of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho.
A photojournalist with Vanguard, Gbenga Olamikan was manhandled on the court premises while covering the arrival of the agitators as armed DSS operatives pounced on him and seized his mobile phone.Also, the operatives in an attempt to prevent other journalists from filming the Yoruba Nation agitators cordoned off the court room and denied journalists access.as journalists insisted that security operatives cannot stop them from carrying out their duties.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu had last week while ruling on the enforcement of fundamental rights suit filed by their lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, ordered the DSS to produce the agitators in court. On July 1, DSS operatives stormed Igboho's residence at Soka, Ibadan around 1 am, killing two of his associates and arresting 12 persons.
Igboho, who escaped the raid, was recently arrested in Benin Republic, while attempting to travel to Germany with his wife.
