Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has signed a bill creating three additional second-class emirates in the state. The legislation, passed by the Kano House of Assembly on Tuesday, establishes the Rano, Karaye, and Gaya emirates, all under the jurisdiction of the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.
According to Dawakin-Tofa Bature, the governor's spokesperson, the names of the emirs for the new emirates will be announced soon. This development comes on the heels of a Kano State High Court ruling, which restrained Aminu Bayero from claiming the title of Emir of Kano, pending the resolution of an ongoing suit. The court also barred four other dethroned emirs from parading themselves as monarchs.
