Eight Labour Party state assembly candidates, on Friday, defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress in Jigawa State, POLITICS NIGERIA has learned.
The candidates were received by the State Governor, Muhammad Badaru during an event in the Government house. Further checks reveal that the eight candidates are from Auyo, Kirikasamma, Bulangu, Malammadori, Kafin Hausa, Birniwa, Guri and Kaugama constituencies. Speaking on the development, the governor’s aide, Mr Habibu Kila, diclosed that the governor also received a member of the northern presidential campaign council of the Labour Party who dumped the party and joined the APC.
Revelaing the reason for their defection, one of the politicians from Guri LGA, Muhammad Makinta, stated that they joined the ruling Party after realizing that the APC had more prospects of winning in the state. Mr Makinta said they will work to ensure victory for APC’s candidates in the general election in their respective areas of influence.
